Cambodia is an enchanting land where the ancient and modern converge. As the location of the former Khmer Empire, it is blessed with immense historical attractions. During the Angkorian period the Khmer dynasty ruled much of what is now Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. This can be witnessed at the fabled temples of Angkor – monuments unrivalled in scale and grandeur anywhere else in Asia. Phnom Penh is a charismatic capital with colonial heritage, a smart riverside promenade and a gleaming Grand Palace. Siem Reap has luxury hotels that cater for visitors to the Angkor temples.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Start your exploration of Cambodia at the jewel in its crown – mighty Angkor Wat at dawn. 4:45AM - We rise early in the quiet darkness, making our way to Angkor Wat before the first light touched the sky. As dawn approached, the ancient temple slowly emerged from the shadows, its towers standing proud against a canvas of gold, pink, and lavender. We follow in the footsteps of kings as we explore the centre of the Khmer Empire, undoubtedly the country’s most spectacular temple, Angkor Wat is among the world’s largest religious monuments, spanning 162.2 hectares. It was built in the 12th century as a Hindu temple but later transformed into a place of worship for Buddhists and served as the centre of the Angkor Empire. Return to the hotel for breakfast before continue to the root-riddled Ta Prohm, made famous after featuring in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie. The temple has been relatively untouched since it was discovered and retains much of its mystery. Next, visit The South Gate of Angkor Thom: Bayon Temple, The Royal Enclosure, Phimeanaka, Elephant and Leper King Terrace. Refresh yourself with a cold drink/Juice during the temple tour.

Note: To visit the temples in the Angkor area or any other temples, visitors are required to wear proper attire, covering shoulders and knees to show respect. The upper level of Bayon temple is closed for renovation. The ground parts remain open as usual. Guests will still be able to visit Bayon Temple at the lower level as well as all the other temples of Angkor as per the program.

After returning to Siem Reap, you can relax and enjoy the rest of the evening at your own pace, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and unwinding as you wish.

From the hotel, we drive to the pier to board a wooden boat and cruise across the water. Standing as South-east Asia’s largest body of freshwater, it is one of the richest inland fishing areas in the world and is home to more than 149 fish species. It is also a popular breeding ground for many rare and endangered birds. In 1997, it was designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve. It is also home to several floating villages, where people live out their lives on the water. We head to one of them to sail past floating houses, shops, restaurants, schools and even karaoke bars.

Then, we’ll explore Wat Bo, one of the city’s oldest and most beautiful temples. Our journey continues to SATCHA, Cambodia’s first handicraft center dedicated to nurturing local artisans.
